Kim Crockett Applauds Wisconsin Supreme Court Ruling Upholding State Law Against Drop Boxes and Protections Against Ballot Harvesting

Minneapolis, MN – Today, Republican-endorsed candidate for Secretary of State Kim Crockett issued the statement below on the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s ruling on absentee ballot drop boxes:

“The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld statutory prohibitions against absentee ballot drop boxes. This is the kind of commonsense measure we need to enact here in Minnesota to better protect the integrity of our elections. Left unchecked, absentee ballot drop boxes are highly susceptible to fraud and abuse. The court also enforced clear statutory language that requires voters to return their own ballots (to avoid the problem of “ballot harvesting” and  voters being taken advantage of by corrupt political operatives). While an outright prohibition perhaps goes too far, a strict approach to accepting ballots from someone other than a voter is in order. Minnesota’s more lenient approach (allows three ballots to be delivered by someone other than the voters) opens the door to fraud.

As Secretary of State, these are the kinds of reforms I will ask the legislature to enact. Minnesotans deserve a chief elections officer who is committed to protecting every legal vote and to administering our elections with fairness and impartiality.

As your Secretary of State, I will work every day to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat.” – Kim Crockett, candidate for Secretary of State
